16 February 2012

Romantic Brits pulled out all the stops to impress their loved ones on the 14 February 2012 as Livebookings, the leading European online reservations and marketing service provider for restaurants, saw an impressive 90% increase in seated diners on Valentine’s Day 2011. Setting a new record for the most seated diners in a day, Livebookings delivered more than 120,000 covers to its restaurant customers.

It seems that once again Italian is the food of love, according to Livebookings, 40% of lovers opted for Italian cuisine on the big day, followed by British (16%), Pizza (13%) which has moved from eighth place to third in the 2012 popularity stakes. Other winning cuisines this year were Mexican and Thai that both made their entrance into the top ten.

The record for the most seated diners in a day, broken on 14 February 2012, coincides with Bookatable.com, Livebookings consumer restaurant booking website, seeing more than one million visits in a single month, cementing its position as European market leader.

Commenting on the results, Colin Tenwick, CEO of Livebookings, says: “It’s incredible to think the number of diners that we delivered to restaurants on a single day would have filled the equivalent of both Wembley and Stamford Bridge stadiums and that despite the recession many diners continued to celebrate by dining out this Valentine’s Day.”
